چکیده

VILJOEN, J . H . Further studies on the epizootiology of nematode parasites of sheep in the Karoo. Onderstepoort J. vet. Res., 36 (2) , 233-264, (1969). The dominant parasites in the Karoo are Nematodirus spathiger (Railliet , 1896) and Trichostrongylus falculatus Ransom , 1911 . In the moister eastern regions Haemonchus contortus (Rudolphi, 1803) and Oesophagostomum columbianum (Curtice, 1890) occur but they decrease markedly as the region becomes more arid . Ostertagia circumcincta (Stadelmann , 1894) is of little or no significance. The free-living stages of N. spathiger are highly resistant to heat and desiccation, but T. fa lculatus cannot survive if the mean monthly mean temperatures exceed 20°C and even if the monthly rainfall exceeds 50 mm , there is but a slight increase in worm burdens. Both species reach peak worm burdens in winter. The presence of H . contortus or possibly 0. columbianum has a deleterious effect on N. spathiger. Strategic drenching is recommended in March and July and tactical drenching when climatic conditions are favourable .

Gastrointestinal parasitic infection of slaughtered sheep (Zel breed) in Fereidoonkenar city, Iran

The present study was carried out to determine parasitic infection of sheep with gastrointestinal helminthes in a slaughterhouse in Fereidoonkenar city, Iran. A total number of 50 sheep were examined from April to September 2008. Nematodes were removed from abomasums, small and large intestines, and kept in A.F.A. solution (alcohol, formaldeyde, acetic acid, distilled water, and glycerine) for ...

Screening of Soil and Sheep Faecal Samples for Predacious Fungi: Isolation and Characterization of the Nematode-Trapping Fungus Arthrobotrys oligospora

Over one-year period, 150 pasture soil samples and 138 sheep faecal samples, collected from different parts of Iran were screened for the presence of nematophagous fungi. The samples were cultured at 25ºC on chloramphenicol-2% water agar (CHF-WA) plates in the presence of Haemonchus contortus third stage larvae (L3) and checked over a two-month period for characteristic conidia, conidiophores a...

Effect of organic amendment on organic metabolites in root knot nematode (Meloidogyne Incognita) infested spinach

The Nematodes are roundworms that are found in every environment of the earth. While some species are harmful parasites, others play a vital role in nutrient cycle and medical research. Nematode infestation in the fields is poly-specific; however, depending on the agro-climatic conditions, one or two species are dominant over the rest. The present studies attempts to observe and control the roo...

A Study of Sheep Nematode Populations on Ten Commercial Properties on Kangaroo Island, South Australia

South Australian studies to investigate the epidemiology of nematode parasites of sheep have been carried out at Kybybolite, Minnipa and Turretfield ( Brown et al. 1985; Pullman et al. 1988). The epidemiological differences between Kybybolite and Turretfield are being investigated further. Recently, resistance to major groups of anthelmintics has been detected in sheep nematode populations in S...
